Ivan Rendić, 1894
The statue, by Dalmatian sculptor Ivan Rendić, is a reassuring presence which has been proudly displayed in Generali’s historic head office building in Trieste since at least 1888.
A metaphor for the Company and thus for the insurance industry as a whole, the sculpture enjoyed a certain artistic status from the very beginning: it might rightly be considered the first example of visual communication used by Generali. It features on the oldest wall calendars in the Archive, on tariff tables and advertising brochures, as well as on some of the Company’s policy folders.
