1848: Isacco Pesaro Maurogonato
In 1848 the Republic of San Marco has been proclaimed and Isacco Pesaro Maurogonato, future director of Generali, becomes its Minister of Finance. In order to counter the popular effervescence, the Trieste management of Generali proposes to reduce the name of the Company to “Assicurazioni Generali”. Once the Hasburg are back in power, in 1860 the Venetian management replaces the two-headed eagle with the Lion of St Mark: they would never go back.
